Sixth Grade Band is where students begin the process of learning to play their chosen instrument and all that comes with it! Student are in working sections of like instruments for the first half of the year while learning the basics of notes, sounds, tone and rhythms before they begin full ensemble.

Students have the opportunity to play two concerts (February and May), as well as a few concerts for our 5th grade orientation at the end of the year. Sixth Grade Band is a wonderful opportunity to explore something new and see if music is a good fit for you!

Seventh Grade Band is a great way to expand on what was learned in 6th grade band, but meets in a full ensemble everyday. Students have the opportunity to perform not only at our Holiday concert, Winter Concert and Spring Concert, but they are also able to begin performing at District and State Band Festival and have the opportunity to do District Solo and Ensemble where they can do a solo or play in a small group ensemble.

They also begin learning the basics of marching band in the spring and the common commands associated with marching. They also have the opportunity to join our after school jazz band. These experiences are a great way to expand on their musical knowledge and begin preparing them for more advanced years to come.

Eighth Grade Band is our most experienced ensemble at the middle school. While expanding on all of the fundamentals of music from the grades before, they also begin to prepare for high school. Not only do they have the Holiday Concert and Winter Concert, the eighth grade band has their own Finale Concert in the Spring to showcase their abilities. The 8th grade students also have the chance to do a “concert tour” of all Otsego elementary school buildings, as well as march in the Allegan Fair Parade and the Memorial Day Parade.

Other opportunities include District and State Band Festival and District Solo and Ensemble, Pep Band, and our after school jazz band. These are all wonderful opportunities that we offer Otsego Middle School!

December 4, 2025 (Thursday) - Holiday Band Concert (7th and 8th Grade with HS Bands) begins @ 7:00 pm OHS Auditorium

December 12, 2025 (Friday) - Elementary School Tour (8th Grade only), 8am - 1pm.

December 15, 2025 (Monday) - Pep Band Night - (8th Grade Only), meeting time TBA

February 15, 2026 (Sunday) - Winter Band Concert (6th, 7th, and 8th Grade) begins @ 3:00 pm OHS Auditorium

Feb. 27, 2026 (Friday) - DISTRICT 10 BAND FESTIVAL -- (7th and 8th grades) 7th @ 10:45am; 8th @ 2:25pm

April 18, 2026 (Saturday) - District 10 Solo and Ensemble Festival (7th and 8th Grade) @ Grand Rapids Northpointe Christian School
